The term ’international‘ or ’internationally’ often depicts interaction between two or more countries, establishing a group or affiliation comprising two or more member countries, or reaching beyond national boundaries in general. In American English, the term is usually used to refer to ’foreign‘ or ’foreigner’.
In sports, ’international‘ usually pertains to either to a player capped by his home team or a match between two national teams. External politics may be referred to as ‘international’. On the other hand, ’international’ in linguistics is used to refer to the language spoken by the people of not just two countries, but rather a large number of countries.
In inter-linguisitics, an ’international word‘ is one that occurs in at least two languages. Such words are accumulated from extensive languages and are often utilised to create language systems that can be used for international communication. These words are likewise used for other purposes, such as to learn new languages. The Interlingua vocabulary consists of a wide range of words because its control languages are chosen to give its words and affixes a maximum geographical scope.
In North American organised environments, the word ’international‘ is used for the central union location such as the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), whose international office is located in Washington, D.C. A regional office that acts as an umbrella organisation for two or more local offices may be called ’international’.
Normally, global is used as a synonym for international, but such usage is incorrect as the term ‘global’ means ‘one world’ while international refers to different people, countries, cultures, languages, economies, borders and ecosystems.
